Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
  4. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×9 inch baking pan.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  7. Pour the caramel sauce over the shortbread layer and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
  8. In a small saucepan, heat the chocolate chips and heavy cream over low heat until melted and smooth.
  9. Pour the chocolate mixture over the pecans and caramel.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
  • Make sure the caramel sauce is at room temperature before pouring it over the shortbread.
