Ingredients

  • 4 yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 6 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 baguette, sliced
  • 2 cups gruyère cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a slow cooker, combine the sliced onions and butter. Stir to coat the onions.
  2. Add the beef broth, white wine, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, bay leaves, and garlic to the slow cooker.
  3. Season with salt and pepper, then cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the onions are caramelized and tender.
  4. Remove the bay leaves before serving.
  5. To serve, ladle the soup into bowls, top with baguette slices, and sprinkle with gruyère cheese.
  6. Place the bowls under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
