Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ teaspoon thyme (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and add flour to make a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, sliced onion, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the meatballs back to the skillet and cook in the gravy for about 10 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and return to the pot.
  8. Add milk, butter, salt, pepper, and sour cream (if using) to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  9. Serve meatballs over mashed potatoes, drizzled with gravy.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use leaner ground beef or turkey.
