Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, sliced
4 slices of rye bread
4 slices of Swiss cheese
2 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
While the onions are cooking, form the ground beef into two patties and season with salt and pepper.
In another skillet, cook the beef patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
Once the patties are cooked, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover until the cheese is melted.
In the same skillet used for the onions, add the remaining butter and toast the rye bread on both sides until golden brown.
Assemble the patty melt by placing a patty with melted cheese on a slice of toasted bread, topping it with caramelized onions, and then adding another slice of bread on top.
Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef before cooking.
Feel free to use different types of cheese if desired.
Serve with pickles or a side salad for a complete meal.
